How to Mass Deploy the Ditto tvOS Receiver Using Jamf

This guide allows Ditto and Jamf administrators to zero-touch deploy the Ditto tvOS Receiver across multiple supervised Apple TVs simultaneously. Please note this process only works with Jamf Pro and Jamf School and not with Jamf Now or other Jamf products.

Step 1 - Preconfigure Jamf in Ditto

1. Log in to the Ditto Account Portal
2. Navigate to the "My Organization" area
3. Select "Deployment"
4. Select the "Ditto tvOS Receiver" tab
5. Select "Jamf Pro" or "Jamf School" from the "Apple TV MDM Type" options
6. Note the configuration code that appears
   
   

Step 2 - Deploy Ditto tvOS Receiver in Jamf

Assign Ditto Receiver licenses with VPP

In the Apple business/education Portal (bussiness.apple.com or school.apple.com):

1. Click "Apps and Books"
2. Search for "Ditto Receiver" and select it
3. In the right column under "Buy Licenses"
4. Assign to the desired company location
5. Choose the quantity desired and click "Get"
6. After a few moments, the total under "Manage Licenses" should update to reflect the quantity

Deploy Ditto Receiver with Jamf

1. Log in to your Jamf portal
2. Click the "Devices" tab
3. Select "Mobile Device Apps"
4. Click the "+ New" button at the top right of the list
5. On the "Choose an app type" screen, select "App Store app or VPP store app" and click "Next"
6. Enter "Ditto Receiver" in the search box and press "Next"
7. Select the "VPP Store Apps" tab
8. Click the "Add" button beside Ditto Receiver
9. Ensure the site is set to the same site as the Apple TV(s) you're deploying Ditto to
10. Set the "Distribution Method" to install automatically/prompt users to install
11. Check "Automatically Force App Updates"
12. Check "Make App Managed if Currently Installed as Unmanaged"
13. Navigate to the "Scope" tab
14. Click the "+ Add" button and add the Apple TV(s) you're deploying Ditto to
15. Navigate to the "App Configuration Tab"
16. Copy the app configuration for your organization from the Ditto portal (found in step one above) and paste it in the Preferences box
17. Click "Save" and then click "Done"
18. After a moment, the Ditto Receiver application should begin automatically installing on the Apple TV(s) You can now return to the Ditto portal and assign these receivers to rooms

Step 3 - Link Devices to Rooms in Ditto

At this point, your Apple TVs are now configured and paired to your Ditto account. You now need to link the receivers you just created to rooms in your Ditto Account Portal in order to complete your setup. Follow the steps in the option that applies to you. 

Option 1: If you haven't yet created rooms in the Ditto Account Portal, follow these steps:

1. Return to the Ditto Account Portal
2. Navigate to the Rooms Section
3. Create a room for each receiver you added through Jamf
4. Ditto is now ready to use with your Apple TV. Users can now mirror their screens using Ditto Connect. 

Option 2: If you already created rooms in the Ditto Account Portal, follow these steps to rapidly link them to receivers:

1. Return to the Ditto Account Portal
2. Navigate to the "My Organization" section
3. Select "Deployment"
4. Click the "Ditto tvOS Receiver" tab
5. Under quick link rooms, select "Begin Linking" and you will be presented with a list of unlinked receivers added through Jamf
6. Select the room each receiver should be assigned to from the drop-down beside the receiver name

Step 4 - Lock tvOS into Ditto

The following steps are not required, but we highly recommend them for the best Ditto experience.

1. Log in to your Jamf portal
2. Select "Devices" in the menu
3. Select "Configuration Profiles"
4. Click the "+ New" button at the top right of the list
5. Enter a name for the configuration profile
6. Set the site to the same one you deployed Ditto to
7. Select "Single App Mode" from the menu at the left and click "Configure"
8. Set the targeted operating system to tvOS
9. Under lock to app, select "Specify Bundle ID"
10. Enter "com.squirrels.dittoatv2" for the Bundle ID
11. Select "Restrictions" from the menu at the left and click "Configure"
12. Select the "tvOS" tab
13. Uncheck the "Allow AirPlay" box
14. Select the "Scope" tab above the menu on the left
15. Add the Apple TVs running Ditto receiver
16. Click "Save"
